Product Buzz: Drupal Gardens

The Drupal open source content management system has been downloaded more than 2 million times since it was launched and today powers more than 400,000 websites around the world, including ones developed by SonyBMG, Disney, Forbes and Intel. Acquia, a commercial open source software company providing products, services and technical support founded by Drupal creator Dries Buytaert, has developed a software-as-a-service version of Drupal that will speed the design and deployment of social publishing sites for new, non-technical users, including small business owners and Web designers. Drupal Gardens is a completely hosted Web service that includes design tools enabling the creation of websites in the browser with no programming language to learn, no hosting environment to set up and no code to write. Currently in Alpha phase, Drupal Gardens is scheduled to be released in beta in the coming months and to be in the market at the beginning of 2010.

Features:

  • Flexible configuration for custom design

  • Streamlined content contribution
