What happens when you combine an online video platform company and a Web services provider? You get a management solution that allows customers to publish and deliver high quality video online in minutes.

Delve Networks and Akamai Technologies, Inc. announced a partnership last month to offer high definition online video publishing to Delve’s customers, in part to provide an alternative to Brightcove’s offerings. Currently available to the public, Delve’s solution leverages cloud computing to offer video content ingestion, encoding, multiple device support and the ability for users to search and skip to certain parts of the video. The platform is the first of its kind to let customers manage high quality video delivery and pay for no more than what they use, eliminating the need to maintain hardware and software.

The video publishing solution relies on Akamai’s Media Delivery Services, which supports both Adobe’s and Microsoft’s streaming technologies. With it, Delve can deliver HD-quality video to its users around the globe.

Akamai approached Delve, whose customers include Standard & Poor’s and the Kansas City Chiefs, earlier this year because they were looking for partners that could help them augment their product offerings, says Edgardo Nazario, vice president of product management at Delve. Under the partnership, Delve will have access to next-generation streaming technologies. “Once we got into deeper conversations we realized that a joint collaboration made perfect sense,” says Nazario. “Our online video platform and, therefore, our customers would benefit from integrating with one of the best content distribution networks. We also would have access to leads and opportunities that we wouldn’t otherwise have access to. Their customers would benefit because we can provide a turn-key, end-to-end online video platform to encode, manage and publish video streaming over Akamai’s network. From a business perspective it was a no-brainer.”

Akamai delivers between 10 and 20 percent of all web traffic and has been behind some of the largest live streaming events online, including President Barack Obama’s inauguration and Michael Jackson’s memorial service. Suzanne Johnson, senior industry marketing manager for digital media at the company, says the partnership keeps with Akamai’s mission of supporting innovation and leadership. “Akamai views our digital media partners as a way to augment our offerings that we bring to market,” she says. “We listen to, and work closely with, our customers to make available to them as many of the offerings that they require. Delve Networks is an important part of our robust ecosystem, and we look forward to collaborating with them.”
Nazario said the partnership has already had a positive impact on business at Delve. Additional services and products may be in the works. “The technology portfolios of both companies complement each other really well, and we are going to take advantage of these synergies to create product offerings that will benefit our customers,” he says. “I am a product guy, so I am really excited about what our product teams are working on right now. We have a lot of cool things coming out. Stay tuned.”
